Great, thorough review, with a good eye for detail. I might take exception to some points, however, such as the "friendly" baristas. During the many times I've been to Nina's, the staff were the definitely the low-point. Sometimes surly, often diffident, I never really felt "at home." But I could be the exception, not the rule. I do love the bench seating, plethora of outlets, and the bookstore. Definitely worth a look-see if you haven't been.

My mom and I visit Nina's for Kona Mocha's and Vienna's with a game of cards once or twice a week. Last Sunday Garrison Keillor came in and sat down for a cup. I had heard about him coming to Nina' now and then and felt so lucky to have caught a glimps.I was tempted to ask him what his drink was, but decided to give him his privacy.

I love this website... Just stumbled upon it! I recently moved to the Twin Cities and am originally from Seattle; i.e. a coffee aficionado. I love Nina's too... I live in the neighborhood and it's just a nice place to sit and read.

Very good review. I often frequented Nina's when I lived in the area. It's a beautiful, spacious and a great place to people watch. I completely agree with your assessment of the coffe. I watched this establishment change hands 3 times in 5 years, and I always thought it was strange that the coffee remained subpar with each change of ownership. Still, the pros outweigh the cons at Nina's.

I like Nina's. Especially their oatmeal. But I've had some problems with the service where things would take FOREVER to be served. And I'm talking about things that shouldn't take particularly long at a time when things aren't particularly busy. Not sure what that's all about.
